When you finally buy your first car it is probably because suddenly you realise the convenience of being able to drive around and not rely on public transport; it’s not too good in some parts of the country particularly if you have to travel some distance to work.
London without a car
Many people who graduate from university head to London where there are many job opportunities. City life is not for everyone but it is certainly a good place to start a career. It can be an expensive place to live but one thing that is not as important as it is when living in other parts of the country is owning a car. The tube is the ideal way to travel around the capital, both to and from work and for anything you want to do at the weekend. Owning a car can be hassle; you need somewhere to park.
Some people stay in London for a long time; you may decide you would rather live somewhere a little quieter. At that point a car suddenly becomes something for you to think about. As long as you are taking up a new job as you leave London buying a car should be no problem at all.
A good service
To finance cars you just need to go online and look for a specialist with a good reputation. You can find many reputable lenders online with a quick search. There are certain things you should look for when deciding which lender to go for:
- A competitive interest rate, and with current rates fairly low it is the least you should expect
- A simple procedure, you should be able to complete the form fairly quickly, provide the information required and get a reply within hours.
- No deposit required, the approval should be based on your ability to pay the monthly instalments.
- No administration fees or any restrictions as to where you can go to buy your car.
Once you are approved you really should be able to drive a hard bargain with any car dealer because you are effectively a cash buyer who will be welcomed with open arms. Once you have decided on a car, the lender will send the money directly to the dealer as soon as you provide the details and complete the paperwork.
Insurance
If this is your first car, you will need insurance and a good lender is likely to have contacts with insurance companies who can provide a competitive quote for the car you purchase. You should not have to take it up as a precondition to loan approval; it is simply a service that you may find convenient.
It usually takes a few days for a dealer to get your new car ready. By the time it is ready to drive away the dealer should have the money in the bank and be able to hand your keys over.

If I lived in London I wouldn’t own a car. It’s a walkable city and the buses and the tube are really easy to navigate. I had a great time getting around on their public transport when I went to visit.
