Whenever any of us begins an entrepreneurial pursuit, be it a new small business or a fresh blog, we all hope to be able to get as much reach and popularity as Bob Parsons did with GoDaddy. One of the best ways to attract new people to our brand is by promoting it on social media. Social media pages like Twitter and Facebook can be a great way to expand your brand and get attention. However, when used improperly, promoting your brand on social media can fail or even have a negative effect. To ensure that you gain an audience the right way, here are some tips for promoting your brand on social media.

Create Content That Is Actually Compelling

When brands just spend all day sending out uninspired Tweets hawking their product or blog, people tend to ignore the account altogether. However, when brands actually put out thoughtful and compelling content and actively engage with their audience, people take notice. The best way to use a Twitter or Facebook account to promote your brand is to truly have a conversation and to put out engaging content.

Take Advantage Of New Platforms

Brands that first used Periscope when it was initially launched reaped the rewards of using a platform that most companies hadn’t started using yet. You should always strive to look for new and interesting platforms that you can use to help build an audience before other brands jump on the bandwagon and saturate the platform.

Be Unique And Imaginative

There’s nothing worse than a brand that is clearly just trying to emulate what their competitors are doing on social media. Avoid this by always striving to be unique and imaginative, both in your content and your page design. You don’t want to gain success by reminding your audience of similar companies; rather, you want to gain success by truly standing out from the crowd.

Have A Real Conversation

Don’t be afraid to have a real conversation with your followers. If someone asks you a question, answer it. When your followers post something interesting, reply and let them know that you found their post compelling. The more real dialogues that you have with your followers, the more that they will feel like they have a genuine connection with you and your product or brand.

Offers Deals And Freebies

If you’re a small business, you can get a lot of traction on social media by offering deals and freebies. The truth is that people love to get something for nothing. If you have a product that you know is blog- or Tweet-worthy, then reach out to influential people on social media and offer them a freebie in exchange for a positive Tweet or blog review. The cost of the item is nothing compared to the value of the exposure that you’ll gain by offering goods to influential tastemakers with strong online presences.

Stick With It

Building a platform on social media never happens overnight. Rather, it takes months and sometimes even years of really sticking with it and continuing to update your pages, even when it sometimes feels like you’re talking to no one. If you can continuously update your pages with engaging and interesting content, the audience will eventually find you. You just have to be patient.

These days, it’s impossible to find online success as a brand or business if you aren’t active on social media. Social media is a great way to expand your brand’s reach, provided that you know what you’re doing. If you follow these tips, you can gradually build up your brand over time.
