Make Your Money Go Farther on Vacation

August 16, 2015

You can't deviate from your planned budget. Doing this will cause a disaster that may result in your trip turning out badly. Here are some methods you can use to make your money go farther on vacation.

Properly budgeting your money is essential if you plan on going on vacation with a relatively small amount of money. This is something that not everyone is able to do. However, if traveling is important to you, you must make every penny count. Fortunately, the Internet is now full of ways for you to save money during your travels. It is important that once you formulate a plan that you stick with it. You can’t deviate from your planned budget. Doing this will cause a disaster that may result in your trip turning out badly. If you are planning on staying in San Diego, here are some methods you can use to make your money go farther on vacation.

1. Split the cost

If you are really strapped for cash and you will not be able to go on a vacation by yourself, get some of your friends or family members together and see if any of them are interested in going on a vacation to a destination you want to visit. It is always cheaper to travel as a group when you can split the cost for many of the expenses. When you are in your hotel, you can have two beds set up so that you and your friend or family member will not have to pay for separate rooms. This will save you a large amount of money on hotels, especially if you are going on an extended trip. While this is not an ideal situation, you will be able to get through it for the duration of the trip. You can also share the cost of renting a car and various other things.

2. Always reconfirm your hotel bookings

Even the best hotels in the world mess up bookings from time to time. Because of this, you can’t assume that a hotel still has your reservations that you made several weeks ago. Call them two or three days before your arrival and confirm your booking to make sure there are no mistakes. If you show up without confirming, you run the risk of having the hotel tell you that they do not have a room reserved in your name. You may have to end up spending a lot more on a room than if you had simply called to confirm.

3. Travel during times of the year that are off-peak for your destination

This should go without saying. One of the worst situations you can encounter while you are traveling is to visit a city and have it jam packed with tourists. This makes you feel like you are in a can of sardines, ruining the travel experience for everyone. This is why you must do some research to determine what the peak time of tourist season is so you can avoid it. The time when cities and countries get the most visitors is usually when the weather is the best. Therefore, many countries will not have the same peak tourist seasons. You can pick up info on that online. Just search for the peak period of the country you want to see. Visiting a city during its off-peak period of the year will allow you to always get a seat at nice restaurants and not wait in very long lines for the most popular attractions. Most importantly, prices tend to come down during off-peak periods.

Great guidance. We just returned from a weekend getaway to a Ritz Carlton resort and saved a ton of money because we went during their off-peak season. Here in AZ people like to travel there between September – March.
