What Are the Best Things to Sell at Pawnbrokers?

Pawnbrokers sometimes have a reputation for being for those who are in desperate need of money and can’t get a loan elsewhere, but they are in fact very useful for those looking for an easy way of making some extra cash from those things you don’t use any more. There are of course methods of selling online these days, but it’s not quite the same as being able to go and talk to a physical person about the deal. So, if you think you’ve got some items that would be good to sell, then where should you start?

Jewellery

Jewellery is the immediately obvious choice. It’s generally got an inherent value to it, which means that pawnbrokers are generally open to taking just about anything. Many are also interested in the value of scrap gold and silver which can be melted down, as prices are good right now. This is very good news if you’ve got older jewellery that you don’t think is likely to sell quickly on image alone. Have a rummage through your jewellery boxes to see if there’s anything in there that you don’t ever wear anymore, and would be better in your bank account than in the bottom of a box. Watches are a good seller, too.

Instruments

Musical instruments are the other big seller that you’ll find in the window of just about any pawnbroker, even the smaller ones that are less likely to take items that aren’t very easy to sell. This is because many guitars for instance will always have a value, and some can be really very valuable indeed. Old synthesizers and keyboard can become collectables, unknowingly by the owner. These don’t really degrade over time, and can often even appreciate in value.

Think Like a Pawnbroker

As a general rule, anything that has a reasonable intrinsic value, that is potentially collectible or desirable, and which does not lose money over time, is a good choice to be sold to a pawn broker. The proprietor often doesn’t know how long something will take to sell themselves, so they like items that aren’t going to lose them money.

Of course, the same goes if you’re actually looking to use a pawn broking service; that is, if you want to use an item as collateral for a loan. All of the above is a good choice to pawn for exactly the same reasons, though many will actually lend against anything you like.

If you’re going to pawn jewelry then make sure to get it appraised first somewhere else. The worst thing you can do when you need money is pawn something for way less than its worth.

I hadn’t thought about how instruments would be great to sell to a pawnbroker. However, it makes a lot of sense after you explained it. Since instruments will retain some value and may even gain more as they get older, you should always be able to get some money out of them at a pawn shop. Thanks for the information!
