It’s a scary thing to find yourself the victim of malpractice. When we put our health into the hands of doctors and medical professionals, we do so with the absolute trust that they will provide us the utmost best care and take our health and well-being seriously. When they feel to do so, we oftentimes feel violated and utterly dumbstruck. Finding yourself the victim of malpractice can be extremely upsetting, but it’s important that you take the correct actions to ensure that you get the justice that you deserve. Here are three things to do after you’ve been the victim of malpractice.
Don’t Panic
Although you might be upset, it’s crucial that you at least try to stay calm. It can be very easy during this time to lose your temper and do the wrong thing. Try to stay calm and remind yourself that you have options. Keep in contact with your family and your support system during this time.
Get a Lawyer
Malpractice lawyers are there to help when you have been a victim of malpractice and are in need of justice for your pain and suffering. Your lawyer will be able to help you handle your case and ensure that you experience a positive outcome after your atrocious experience. Contacting an lawyer should be done as soon as possible.
Seek Medical Treatment
If your malpractice has resulted in direct bodily injury and you are suffering, then you need to seek medical treatment. Although it should go without saying, seek treatment from a different doctor and hospital. Many doctors will tell you that they can repair the damage; however, this is oftentimes a ploy to get you to sign a waiver or to make your case look dubious. Always seek the treatment of a different, unrelated doctor.
Malpractice is traumatic. However, if you follow the above steps after your incident, you will eventually come out of the other side of the experience unscathed. Most importantly, make sure that you have a good lawyer who is able to handle your case with trustworthiness and care.
Though I don’t want to experience or be a victim of such, now I know what to do when I become one. Thanks Pauline! We really need to be mindful of this malpractice at all times. We may never know when it’s coming!

Wow, it seems like it would be quite scary to know about receiving a medical malpractice. This is something that actually happened to a friend of mine that was given some type of pill after her shoulder surgery but later realized that the pills were making her shoulders all numb. Because of this she’s still searching for a medical malpractice lawyer to handle the case and get some justice from that lawyer who later left the hospital before she could contact them.
You make a good point that you still need to seek medical attention. If you’ve been subjected to medical malpractice, you likely need to seek a better health care provider to make sure that your condition doesn’t further deteriorate. Another thing is to make sure that you keep careful records of your own. Thanks for the article.
Yes, if victimized by malpractice, you are going to want to find a good doctor and a good lawyer. It’s important that you find out exactly everything they did wrong, then have it fixed, and there is no real way to do that without going to a different doctor. From there, get the doctor to write down everything they can, then give it to your lawyer.
Good advice to stay calm. Anything that has been done is already done and the only thing you should focus on is moving forward. Contacting your lawyer should be your first step for sure. Thanks for the tips.

I definitely agree that the first step is not to panic. You really want to make sure that you are calm and collected so that you can handle the situation in the best way possible. You also want to make sure that you get a really good lawyer. It is essential that you do everything that you can to get the help and justice you deserve.
I love your tip about not panicking. I had a friend who was the victim of malpractice, and he let things get out of control. It ended up hurting him in the end. It’s just like you mention, you need to keep calm and remember that you have options!
Thanks for mentioning the tip to get a lawyer as soon as possible. I actually had a very bad experience while delivering my baby last year, but am still not sure whether what happened would be considered malpractice. I think that if I just talked to a lawyer, I’d be able to get some direction as to whether or not it was malpractice.
I have known people that have been victims of malpractice. It is important to find a doctor afterward to get the help that you need, as well as a good lawyer. It is very traumatic, as you are entrusting those in the medical profession with your life. It is possible that you may need some therapy as well afterward to learn to trust again.
Great advice here! Good tip to not panic. Keeping your composure can lead to much better choices moving forward and getting justice for yourself. Thanks for sharing.

That makes sense to hire a lawyer as soon as possible. For some legal claims there are really short procedural dates to hit. You wouldn’t want your case to be thrown out because you took too long.
