Having no money is a very hard situation indeed. Due to a number of circumstances, you may find yourself with zero or little cash until your next paycheck. What can you do? Well, here are a few tips to get money quickly. None of these tips are sustainable, they are just intended to take you out of a bad situation until you get back on your feet.
1. Sell some stuff
Look into your closet, your attic, your basement, your storage unit (which you should get rid of if possible), and gather everything you’re not using anymore, that could have a resale value. Old phones, old computers, books, pieces of furniture, clothing, gifts you never opened… anything goes. Try to list piece by piece on Ebay or Craigslist to maximize your profit, or just organize a garage sale for your neighbors. The better the pictures and the description, the more likely your chances of making money.
2. Get a title loan for your car
While getting a second mortgage is a pretty risky move, with a car title loan, the most you risk is your car. Make sure you can afford the payments before, especially if you depend on your car to keep your job. Companies abound, check out title loans Baltimore for example, to see how the process goes. Your car gets a valuation, and based on that, the company lends you money.
3. Donate your blood
Some people also donate sperm or eggs, in order to make extra cash. Blood is easier to give, and you can be in and out in a few hours. Don’t overdo it, but if you need a little cash quickly, this may be a solution.
4. Get hired quickly
While you may be hoping for your dream job to come around, there are lots of companies that will hire you within a day or two. Sure, you will have to wait until the next pay period to get your first check, but it is possible to get hired fast. Fast food chains, supermarkets and restaurants come to mind. If money is really tight, you can try to find a job that offers perks, such as free meals, so at least while you wait for your paycheck, your belly is full.
5. Negotiate your debt
Negotiating with your lenders, such as your credit card providers, your bank and other financial institutions, is much easier when you haven’t defaulted on payment yet. Just give them a call, and ask for your credit card rate to get reduced, or for a payment holiday of a month or two, until you get back on your feet. Defaulting on your debt payments will affect your credit score, but again, you can get help. Research your rights and make sure you choose the least hurtful solution for your needs, be it a payment plan, debt consolidation or bankruptcy.
6. Ask for help
There are many organizations here to help you if you struggle with money. Some will help you make a budget, other will provide temporary relief, such as food banks or shelters. You can also reach out to a church or a family member. Just make sure you are able to keep your commitment to them. One step at a time, you’ll get back in the right direction.
I would totally ask for help and get hired as soon as possible. The longer I wait the harder the life would be in.
