Welcome to my monthly income report!
May was a busy month personally (starting to sound like a broken record, right?) and I finished the redesign on MMYW but didn’t have time to do Savvy Scot’s. Income was the best this year, finally what it should be every month to reach 6 figures blogging in 2016.
BLOG EXPENSES
May was a normal month, where my only expenses were my VA, a Godaddy domain and Hostgator hosting. Since the blog redesign was paid in January, that’s about it.
$300 my 20 hour a week VA
I am using Tailwind for my pins, which is paid for the year ($120, use the link to get a free month) and it saves a ton of time managing Pinterest.
Total spent: $300
I am planning on investing more on the blogs, but don’t know where to as of now. I don’t have the patience to track and optimize FB ads so maybe some more writers?
BLOG INCOME
- Reach Financial Independence $2,665
- Make Money Your Way $1,220
- Savvy Scot $3,225
Freelancing for other sites and non blogging ventures: $1,650.
I made $4,000 freelancing in February, $770 in March, $1,850 in April. It seems like the work/time involved in the $2k range is a good balance between income and commitment.
TOTAL BLOG INCOME FOR MAY 2016: $8,760
- Net income: $8,460
I am really happy about this month, and wish I could stabilize at that level, although June is looking like it’s going to be half that sadly.
I set the bar quite high this year, after making about $70,000 in 2014 and $60,000 in 2015 (with less than half the work), to make $100,000 after expenses in 2016. That translates to about $10,000 a month as I want to invest a lot in content and delegating tasks, like I did in Q1.
I should have made $41, 666 net so far, I am $11,697 behind haha. But for the first time this number is actually shrinking, yay!
With a busy April and May, I lost a bit of motivation when it comes to growing my income so much, but now I also have new investing goals and I’ll be needing some cash. These blogs are the perfect way to try to increase my income.
As usual, 10% of that income will go to finance an education project in my village, I am in the red at the moment as the project costs about $800 a month which is well over 10% but it is going well! I am adding more computers and more English classes for the kids.

Congrats for the income this month! It looks like you’re definitely on the right track (even if currently a little short) to reach your yearly goal.
What are your revenue sources? Ads? Affiliate links? Others?
I don’t know how the site looked before the redesign, but the current design looks very good and pro.

Thanks Nick! Yes I do adsense, affiliate, private ads in the form of monthly banners or posts, social media posts, email list posts… I don’t sell any product.

Your VA only charges $300 for 20 hours a week? Where did you find him/her?

Just emailed you. I found her on a VA site but we found out they charged her 30% of her salary so we went direct after a few months.

Thank you for sharing this inspiring post. as a blogger we really wanted to make money from a blog, but before that we still need to realize that before we are going to start to make money from blog,we need to put our passion in our work(that is blogging). Very inspiring and thank you for your motivating me.
